Elon Musk just became the world's first billionaire.
With SpaceX Opening the Nasdaq at $150 a share on Friday, his stake in the company is worth more than $766 billion. Combined with your tesla stake, which is worth $280 billion, Musk's net worth from both companies as of Friday is about $1.05 trillion.
The SpaceX IPO added more than $180 billion to Musk's fortune. He is now worth more than the world's next five richest billionaires combined. His personal net worth is greater than the national GDP of Taiwan, Ireland or Sweden.
Musk's crowning as the first person in history worth $1 trillion is likely to fuel debate over wealth inequality and the rise of power of America's richest tech founders. In addition to creating the world's first billionaire, the SpaceX IPO also created thousands of new millionaires and several new billionaires among employees and executives who own shares.
SpaceX shares were trading around 20% higher shortly after their official debut, at around $164 each. That values the company at approximately $2 billion.
Tesla shares fell about 1% at midday Friday to about $395 each.
