Three criminals jump on Judge Mary Kay Holthus during sentencing in Las Vegas

Three-time felon Deobra Redden launched a shocking attack on Judge Mary Kay Holthus during her sentencing in a Las Vegas courtroom.

Judge Holthus, who took over Department 18 in January 2019 after more than 27 years of service in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, became the target of Redden’s attack.

Redden, present in Clark County District Court for sentencing for attempted assault causing substantial bodily harm, had pleaded guilty during a court appearance in November.

The attack unfolded as his lawyer was seeking parole for him, but Judge Holthus, considering his criminal record, denied the request, saying: “I think it’s time for you to try something else.”

In response, Redden exclaimed, “No, screw that bitch,” before launching himself across the bench toward the judge. Courtroom cameras captured the chaos as court officials quickly intervened and tackled Redden to the ground. The judge suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Deobra Redden, who now faces multiple felony charges, including assault on a protected person for attacking the judge and court officials, had been arrested last month for missing a court appearance.

The Las Vegas District Court, in a statement, praised the actions of court staff, law enforcement and others involved in subduing the defendant.

The court emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment, reviewing protocols to ensure the protection of the judiciary, the public and employees.
