The former French Open champion defeated Italian Jasmine Paolini in three sets to win her first Wimbledon title.
Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic defeated Italy's Jasmine Paolini to win the Wimbledon women's title and record her second Grand Slam singles triumph.
Krejcikova, seeded No. 31, won 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 on Saturday to add the 2024 All England Club crown to her victory at the 2021 French Open.
Her victory comes 26 years after her mentor Jana Novotna, who died of cancer in 2017, won the Wimbledon title.
“Before she died, she told me to go and win a Grand Slam. I did it in Paris in 2021, but I never dreamed of winning the same trophy as Jana,” said Krejcikova, 28, who secured the title in a tense final service game on a third championship point.
“It's incredible what just happened. The best day of my tennis career and the best day of my life.
“I was telling myself to be brave. It was a very difficult match, a great final, a great competition and I am very happy to be here enjoying this moment.”
The result means seventh-seeded Paolini has now lost two consecutive Grand Slam finals after finishing runner-up to Iga Swiatek at the French Open last month.
“I'm a little bit sad, but I try to keep smiling. I have to remember that today is still a good day,” said Paolini, who had never won a match on grass in his career until last month.
Krejcikova set the tone early in the match by breaking the Italian in the opening game and backing up her lead with a serve at love.
Paolini, the first Italian woman to reach a Wimbledon singles final, had to save two break points in the third game but cracked again under the strain as the composed Czech secured a double break to go 4-1 up.
Krejcikova had three set points in the eighth game and needed just one when Paolini sent a backhand into the net.
The nervous Italian only managed to score four points on the Czech's serve in the first set, which lasted 35 minutes. Krejcikova hit 10 winners to the Italian's five.
Paolini ran off centre court to go to the bathroom and returned with renewed energy.
She had also lost the first set in her marathon semi-final win over Donna Vekic and on Saturday she mounted another comeback in the second set.
Breaks in the second and eighth games leveled the final after a set in which Krejcikova committed 14 unforced errors to her opponent's seven, taking her double-fault tally to a tournament-high 33.
The Czech only managed four winners in the set and had a spectacular start.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically in his favour in the deciding set when Paolini double-faulted to lose a break and fall 3-4 behind.
Krejcikova held serve at 5-3 but endured a nervy finish, needing three championship points and saving two break points in the 10th game to seal the title.
