Former first lady Michelle Obama addressed her recent absences of political events and rumors of marriage problems during a podcast published on Tuesday.
Obama said in the podcast of “work in progress” with actress Sophia Bush who now has the opportunity to control her own calendar and can now take “a choice for me,” he said CNN.
“I could have made many of these decisions years ago, but I didn't give me that freedom,” Michelle said, adding: “Maybe even as much as I let my children live their own lives, I use their lives as an excuse why I couldn't do something.”
She continued: “And now that is gone. And now I have to look at me, I can look at my calendar, what I did this year, it was a great example of myself, I myself looking at something that I was supposed to do, you know, without naming names, and I chose to do my best for me, not what I had to do, not what I thought other people wanted to do.”
In addition, Michelle markedly jumped the second inauguration of President Donald Trump, as well as the funeral of the state of former President Jimmy Carter in January.
Then went on to discuss the guilt of saying no and how his recent choices of moving away from certain responsibilities increased the rumors of a possible divorce of her husband, former President Barack Obama.
“I still find time for you to know, give it speeches, to be in the world, work on projects. I still care about the education of girls. We, we already know, the library will open in a year from now on. Certain things I am and I am not doing with the library,” Obama said.
She continued: “That is what we, like women, I think we fight with disappointing people. I mean that this year people left, you know, they could not even understand that I was making a decision for me that had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing ourselves.”
