Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has expressed gratitude to the student protesters and the people for ending the 15-year rule of Awami League's Sheikh Hasina Wazed and urged them to put aside their thirst for revenge.

In a phone call to The daily starBNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said he also asked everyone to be patient.

“I saw her again after a long time. She seemed to be in her right mind, although she looked a little tired,” Fakhrul said.

He added: “The BNP chairperson has received her passport. The government has been making it difficult for her to access it for days. We are preparing to take her abroad for better treatment. However, her doctors here have not allowed her to fly yet. However, they are monitoring her condition and necessary arrangements will be made as soon as we get clearance.”

Fakhrul also mentioned that the location of Khaleda's treatment has not yet been determined.

Asked if Khaleda observed the recent political reform, Fakhrul said she observed and is aware of the whole matter.

“She has thanked the students and the people of this country for toppling the autocratic Awami League regime. She also urged everyone to be patient and remain calm,” Fakhrul said, adding that the people need to put aside their desire for revenge and focus together on rebuilding this country.
