DALLAS: A record 20,000 people attended the three-day annual convention of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) which concluded in Dallas, USA.
The convention had a registration capacity of 20,000 people, and on the second day, the registration limit was reached, forcing the ISNA administration to close registrations. As a result, hundreds of people were unable to attend the convention.
On the last day, various activities were held in which experts shared their opinions on important issues. In particular, a seminar was held on the “Blasphemy Law”, in which experts stated that the law is contrary to Sharia, providing arguments taken from the Quran and Hadith.
The convention addressed a wide range of topics, including issues related to women, youth, and general problems of life in the United States, as well as international issues and their solutions. These sessions were designed to help attendees benefit from the practical experience of specialists.
During the convention, awards were given to doctors who, driven by a spirit of humanitarian service, served in Gaza. Among the awardees were a significant number of Pakistani doctors.
On this occasion, Texas State Assemblyman Dr. Suleman Lalani said that it is crucial to determine our course and that making the right decision is vital to be remembered in history. He praised the community doctors who, with a strong sense of service, went to Gaza to provide medical assistance to the oppressed people.
One of the awardees, Dr. Ikram, shared his emotional experience and stated that the miserable condition of the Palestinian people was deeply distressing, but despite the oppression, he saw no trace of sadness on their faces. He mentioned that the smiles on their faces are something he will never forget.
Dr. Ikram's wife, Banish Ikram, mentioned that her entire family fully supported him in going to Gaza and that they are happy to have contributed in some way to helping the oppressed Muslims in Gaza.
On the last day of the convention, various sports and recreational programmes were organised. A poetry session (Mushaira) was also organised with the participation of poets from India and Pakistan.
Renowned Pakistani poet Abbas Tabish presented his poetry and received great appreciation. The session was chaired by renowned poet Noor Amrohvi.
Kashmiri poets including Dr Tauqeer Gilani, Tariq Hashmi, Ayub Faizan Haq, Wasif Hussain, Fareed Sheikh, Rizwan Hasni, Sheikh Ejaz and Ahmed Shah Ghazali were also invited. The ISNA Bazaar was packed with people shopping at the stalls, with a large number of men and women doing their shopping. The businesses that set up the stalls also benefited considerably from this convention.
The convention organized by ISNA in Dallas was historic and had record attendance, which contributed to its success. Azhar Aziz, former president of ISNA Dallas, played a major role in the success of this convention.
