A man was treated by firefighters “when he suffered serious burns after an explosion,” according to the prosecutor's office.

France's national intelligence agency arrested a 26-year-old Russian-Ukrainian man on suspicion of planning a violent act after being injured in an explosion, France's Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office said.

The man was treated on Monday by firefighters “when he suffered serious burns after an explosion,” the prosecutor's office reported on Wednesday.

“Products and materials intended to manufacture explosive devices” were found in his hotel room, he said.

France is on high threat alert with less than two months left until the start of the Paris Olympic Games. The Games are held in a complex geopolitical context, with wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and pose a significant security challenge.

Last month, French security services thwarted the first planned attack on the Games, with the arrest of an 18-year-old Chechen man who was allegedly preparing a suicide mission at the Saint-Etienne football stadium.

This week France hosts high-profile commemorations of the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy. US President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other leaders are expected to attend the main event on Thursday.
