Bangladesh has recently witnessed some of its worst violence in decades: violence sparked by student protests against a quota system for government jobs that protesters said favored supporters of the ruling Awami League party.
The country's Supreme Court has scrapped the quota. But with dozens dead and hundreds arrested, serious questions remain about the government's handling of the crisis, while students are demanding significant changes in a country where they say democratic values are under threat.
