In the upcoming northern winter schedule starting in late 2024, Star Alliance member United Airlines no longer plans to operate its seasonal routes from Los Angeles to Auckland (AKL) and Brisbane (BNE).
United will, however, continue to serve both Auckland and Brisbane from its San Francisco (SFO) hub.
Delta Air Lines also recently converted its Los Angeles to Auckland route to seasonal service amid consistently low load factors for most of the year.
Delta also recently confirmed that it would not resume its flights from Los Angeles to Shanghai, a route that United currently plans to resume this summer. Qantas also recently pulled out of Shanghai.
Following United's withdrawal from the Los Angeles-Auckland and Los Angeles-Brisbane markets, the airline's long-haul flights from Los Angeles will focus on flights to Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Shanghai , if this applies.
The airline recently confirmed a second year-round flight between Hong Kong and Los Angeles starting in October, in addition to extending the second flight between Seoul and San Francisco to year-round.
Additionally, United recently announced new service between Cebu and Tokyo-Narita, becoming the first U.S. airline to serve Cebu, and new service from its Guam hub to Tokyo-Haneda, launching this month.
