United Airlines has announced plans to fly between Chicago and Athens this summer.

United will fly daily between the two cities starting May 23, adding to the airline's existing seasonal routes from New York's Newark and Washington Dulles to Athens.
The airline will go head-to-head with rival American Airlines, which also operates seasonal flights between Chicago and Athens, as well as summer routes from New York JFK and Philadelphia to the Greek capital.
In October last year, United announced it would operate its largest transatlantic schedules to date in the summer of 2024.
The airline will offer flights to 38 transatlantic cities, becoming the first and only airline to offer non-stop flights between the United States and Faro, with four-times-weekly service from New York's Newark Airport beginning May 24.
