Marriott recognized for its sustainability efforts with Green Key certification for eight of its hotels in Dubai – Business Traveler

Marriott has made impressive strides in championing sustainability across its portfolio and has been rewarded for its efforts with Green Key certification awarded to eight of its Dubai hotels.

Green Key, an international sustainability certificate for tourism businesses in more than 60 countries, is the leading standard for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations within the tourism industry. To be eligible for certification, hotels are scored based on a set of criteria that examine factors such as staff engagement, food and beverage, water, waste management, energy use and more. Having one is a clear indication to guests that the hotel or establishment is committed to reducing the environmental impact of their stay.

The eight Dubai-based Marriott hotels that have received Green Key certification are W Dubai – Mina Seyahi, The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Waterpark, Le Meridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, Aloft . Dubai Airport, Aloft Al Mina, Element Dubai Airport and Element Al Mina.

Incorporating sustainability into business travel in the Middle East

We have implemented several initiatives in recent years at each hotel and resort, with sustainability being a big priority for us. Receiving the Green Key is a testament to the efforts of each hotel team and our guests to reduce the environmental impact of each stay and our operation.”

Some of the sustainable practices introduced at these hotels include initiatives such as an on-site water bottling plant, on-site hydroponic farming, replacing single-use plastic, commitment to using sustainable hair and body care products in the rooms, the implementation of zero waste menus, the installation of electric vehicle chargers, linen reuse programs, the use of cleaning products with ecological certification, awareness and education programs, and the automation of electricity systems , water and thermostats to save energy by reducing unnecessary use.
