Jetstar presents new uniforms designed by Genevieve Smart – Business Traveler

Qantas subsidiary Jetstar has unveiled its first new uniforms since the airline launched its first flights in 2004.

The new range has been created by Australian fashion designer Genevieve Smart and will be worn by more than 5,000 frontline employees in Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore.

The airline's pilot uniforms have changed from traditional black to blue and include new epaulettes and the option of a neckerchief.

Meanwhile, cabin crew and ground staff uniforms feature a new “softer orange complemented by blue”, which Jetstar says was inspired “by the sunset seen through an aircraft window”.

Options include linen-look blazers in blue and orange, along with a shirt dress, fitted skirts, tapered trousers, slim ties and belts with striped details.

Jetstar said the new uniforms, which will be introduced later this year, had been designed “to exude a festive atmosphere while maintaining a professional touch”.

The low-cost airline celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first domestic services in May this year and has carried more than 350 million customers across its domestic and international network since its inception.

In November, the airline announced plans to invest in a multi-million-dollar upgrade of its existing fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, with an overhaul of the planes' economy and business class seats, and the addition of onboard connectivity.

Commenting on the news, Jetstar group chief executive Stephanie Tully said:

“We have listened to our people and together we wanted to create a uniform that reflects how far we have come as we move into our third decade of operation.

“With the help of Genevieve Smart, the newly designed collection suits everyone and gives our team more freedom to choose what they would like to wear.

“Sustainability has been an important part of the process, including ensuring that current Jetstar uniforms are reused into new products.

“Our new uniform arrives as we celebrate our 20th birthday in May and adds to our investment in new aircraft, new routes and new cabins for our international widebody fleet to help customers fly more places more often and for less. “.
