How to have the best Sunday in Los Angeles, according to Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish names her pets after things she wishes she had more of. That is, sleep.

His dog Sleeper and cats Sleepy and Catonic (whom he adopted from the set of the cat movie “Keanu”) make their house in the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles a home. That and his underwear. “I've spent six months here or there making movies, but my animals and my underwear, my trophies, everything is in Los Angeles,” he says.

In Sunday Funday, the people of Los Angeles tell us step by step their ideal Sunday in the city. Find ideas and inspiration on where to go, what to eat and how to enjoy life on the weekends.

After touring foster homes throughout Southern California throughout her childhood, the comedian has made South Central LA her permanent home. “South Central is the safest place to live, geographically,” said Haddish, who has invested in properties in the area and others throughout LA. County. “Everything I buy in Los Angeles County, I pay attention to the flaws. South Central is the safest place when it comes to flooding, natural disasters, and fires. I have property in other states, but I don't live there. “I’m housing youth in foster care.”

Haddish, who recently produced and appeared in the Vice docuseries “Black Comedy in America” (now available to stream on Philo), says her perfect Sunday would be spent at home, alone. “I typically spend Sundays in praise, worship and rest,” said Haddish, of Jewish-Eritrean descent. “I cook and I sleep and I try to refrain from being around a bunch of people because I'm always around a bunch of people. I would rather stay in bed all day and read my Torah, cook, and watch cartoons. “That’s what I would prefer.”

But if forced outdoors, the comedian's Sunday dream would begin with a move followed by stops for shrimp and barbecue.

7 a.m.: Kenneth Hahn Park Walk

I'll probably do this once every two months, but I like to start at Kenneth Hahn Park and then continue that walk through the MRT [Mark Ridley-Thomas] Bridge to Marina del Rey. You can walk to Marina del Rey which is really cool. And then while I'm doing that walk, I'll stop at a fruit truck that sells smoothies right off Jefferson. I'll stop there, grab something from that truck, continue my walk and take it to the marina.

It takes between two and three hours, depending on how fast you walk. I will start in the morning and when I arrive at the place three hours will have passed. Then I'll buy one of those Lime scooters and ride home or walk. So it will be like a whole day of walking. Or I'll get in an Uber and go home.

7am: Start the day with a barre class.

I hate going to the gym because people feel like they need to talk to you or guide you through your workout. Or they are trying to take pictures or film you doing it. At Pure Barre, everyone works out at the same time, so you don't have time to grab your phone and take pictures. People don't bother me there, it's a full body workout and it only lasts 50 minutes. And your body looks phenomenal. It's a good exercise.

If I go to class early, I'll get the pastrami Metro and let it rest in the refrigerator until 1 o'clock. Unless I have business meetings all day, I won't get it at all. But that's my gift to myself.

I do intermittent fasting, so I don't eat. [between the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 p.m.]. Then I'll be hungry until 1 o'clock. There are no limits on eating between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., it's what my stomach can handle. Put it in the article: “unlimited meals until 8.”

2 p.m.: Refuel with shrimp and garnishes

Sundays is Mel's Fish Shack or D's Original Takeout Grill. [At Mel’s] I get the combo dinner of red snapper and shrimp with potato and kale salad. Always. I used to eat crab soup all the time, but they stopped making it because they said it was too expensive.

[At D’s] I'll order the barbecue brisket or shrimp dinner. And he makes this gumbo that is fire, usually on Sundays.

However, most of the time I return on a Sunday morning, so I will stop at Tacos LAX every time I get off the plane because they have the best tacos in all of Los Angeles. Especially their shrimp tacos: fire!

4 pm: Pit stop in the District

The District, right off Crenshaw, has this fried lobster that will make you want to slap your mother! All food in the District is fire. The drinks are good on Sundays, but I usually like to go on Wednesdays or Tuesdays because they have live bands there. But look, I don't do that all the time, because you definitely have to be prepared to be social. And every time I go there, I meet someone from my past. I ask myself: “Am I ready for a meeting?” Which is fine when it's someone cool; It's not okay when it's your ex.

4 pm: appointment of the day at Alta Adams

On Sundays in the summer, Alta Adams has that outdoor patio and I think they have discounts on drinks on Sundays. I don't drink anymore, so I don't know about that, but in the summer I sit on the patio, especially if I have a date or something. I'll prefer a daytime date, before the sun sets: “pick me up at 4 or I'll see you at 5.” And then I can be home at 8 or 9 o'clock.

8:00 p.m.: Relax at home

At home, I'll literally be reading scripts, writing jokes, writing movies, in my garden. And then if I'm ready to watch something, I'll watch cartoons: “Thundercats,” “Strawberry Shortcake,” “Family Guy,” “American Dad,” “Big Mouth.” I watch “Solar Opposites” because I only get pages of my scenes, so I don't really know what's going on in the show. Then I look like, “This is crazy.” And I like “South Park.” I love a good throwback. “Ninja Turtles”? I will be very happy. “Snorkels.” I love cartoons because I know that no one gets hurt. I feel like on a lot of these shows you'll hear stories about people's things and you'll be like, damn.

8:00 p.m.: Comedy that will close the night

I'm doing a comedy show on Sunday night. My favorite place in Los Angeles is Laugh Factory. But on a Sunday I'll probably be at the Improv or the Comedy Store, or a theater. It hasn't occurred to me to be at Laugh Factory, even though it is my favorite club and I have invested in it. Never on Sunday.
