How to have the best Sunday in Los Angeles, according to Sasheer Zamata

Here is a short list of American cities that Sasheer Zamata has called home: Brooklyn, New York; Charlottesville, Virginia; Indianapolis; Lexington, Kentucky; San Antonio; and Ribera.

The actress, comedian and former “Saturday Night Live” star described herself as a military brat, born in Okinawa, Japan, and who never stayed in one place for more than two years during her childhood. The experience gave him a great sense of perspective, but now, after living in Los Angeles for the past six years, he says, “This is the most grounded and grounded I've ever felt.”

In Sunday Funday, the people of Los Angeles tell us step by step their ideal Sunday in the city. Find ideas and inspiration on where to go, what to eat and how to enjoy life on the weekends.

Zamata settled in East Los Angeles because “when I moved to Los Angeles, all my friends told me, 'If you want to see us, you have to be on the east side, otherwise you won't be able to see us,'” he said.

This month, she will appear in Disney+'s highly anticipated “Agatha All Along,” a spinoff of the streamer's acclaimed “WandaVision” series. She plays a witch named Jennifer Kale who finds a kindred spirit in Kathryn Hahn's titular Agatha Harkness. “All the characters are witches without a coven, so we are all loners, misfits and bandits who come together to achieve the common goal of achieving our dreams,” Zamata said. “My character, Jen, is pretty dry and sarcastic, like me, and she's fun to play.”

When not working, Zamata enjoys shopping secondhand and enjoying the best of the Eastside's culinary offerings. “I find Sundays nice and sleepy, but I also like to turn them into a social time with a brunch or a gathering of some kind,” he said. This is how you would spend a perfect day in Los Angeles

9am: Start the day with early morning pilates

I go to bed late, but my body wakes up earlier. Around 7 or 8 in the morning is when I wake up. I used to love sleeping until 11 or 12, but my body can't do it anymore. It's not by choice, it's not because I want to.

I'm trying to make Pilates a weekly tradition. It also helps to do it in the morning because it's like, “I left my house, I can start the day, things are happening.” I'm always trying to strengthen my core. I have a very small waist which causes back problems and if you can strengthen your core, it helps your back and everything else. Many chiropractors and massage therapists have recommended things to me like, “You should probably do Pilates.” So now I'm doing it and trying to take it seriously.

I like Pilates. They have a trampoline [reformer apparatus] and they make it very fun. The teachers are very helpful and help you adjust and figure it out, and I don't find it too intimidating.

11:30 am: meet friends to lunch

After Pilates, I'll probably go to lunch and meet up with some friends. If no one has anything to do, we'll be there for a couple of hours.

I love State of origin a lot. I don't even remember who introduced me to HomeState, but I learned it very early on when I moved to Los Angeles. I thought, “Oh my God, I have to come here every day.”

I have a couple of favorite options: I like their Tijuana Panther taco. Their Emo's taco is a simple bean and cheese. And I like their Frito pie plate. It's a Frito bag that they put brisket and onion and all that stuff in and it's very tasty. Something about eating out of a bag of chips feels really satisfying. But all his things are good.

2 pm: gosecond hand shopping

If friends are willing to hang out, we'll probably do some shopping. I love doing property sales. I'm always on Estatesales.net to look up what's in the area and what's happening that weekend.

He Frogtown Flea Tracking It actually happens on Saturday, but sometimes there are still sales on Sunday. I love being able to pull out of multiple different parking lots and multiple different locations in one walk and shop for hours and hours and hours. It's very fun.

I'm currently looking for matching outfits, like a top and bottoms, a suit, a jumpsuit or a romper. They are a lot of fun if they have a vintage and old school look. I think what attracts me are the patterns. If there's a really fun pattern or a really bright color, I just hit the mark.

And I'm always, always looking at the chairs. I certainly don't need any furniture, but I love looking at it. I love chairs as functional furniture but also as decoration. Or sometimes I find fun wall art. In fact, there is a great furniture store called vintage junk and it's huge. They have everything: closets, dressers, tables, everything you could want. From there I got this great bank. [Another time] I found a closet that made me really sad because I had just bought one that was much more expensive than this one. I have spent hours and hours there, because it is possible. I like antique furniture because it's also better built, which is a shame. Fortunately, there are people who save that stuff and want it to be reused, and I will happily reuse it.

6 p.m.: Refuel at Little Dom's

Shopping always makes me hungry, so I've probably worked up an appetite. And I love to eat at Little Dom. It's such a nice atmosphere and all their food and drinks are delicious.

Sometimes I just order traditional spaghetti and meatballs. Most of the time I prefer salmon. I really like their salmon. And they have a spinach side dish that I'll pretend is healthy, or an arugula salad. and his penicillin [cocktails] They are really good.

8 pm: Home for some comfort TV

Once I get home, I might watch some TV, a movie or something. I just finished that K-pop reality competition, “The Debut: Dream Academy.” It was really intense…they were training these 14 to 18 year old girls for two years. They are far from their families and risk everything to become a K-pop group. And then they did it and they were actually a really good and talented group.

Yo [also] I love cartoons. I'm watching “Solar Opposites” right now, which is a lot of fun. I finished all of “Rick and Morty” before that and I'm waiting. [eagerly] for next season because I love that show so much.

After television it's time to sleep. I'd like to be the kind of person who says, “Wow, it's 9 pm, I'm going to read a book, stretch, meditate and relax.” But my brain always stays busy, I'm sure because I'm on the phone all the time. I'm up until 11 at night and then my body collapses and I'm like, “Okay, now we're sleeping on the couch.”
