Holiday Inn returns to Kyoto – Business traveler

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has signed a management agreement with AXA IM Alts to open the Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo in early 2025.

The opening heralds a return to the brand's roots in Japan, with the first Holiday Inn opening more than 50 years ago in 1973.

When Holiday Inn returns to Kyoto, it will be Japan's 11th hotel under the Holiday Inn family of brands and IHG's third hotel in the city, joining ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto and the recently opened Six Senses Kyoto.

The 183-room property will undergo a comprehensive renovation before changing its name to Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo.

Upon reopening, the hotel will feature dining and leisure amenities, including a lobby lounge and bar, a luxury restaurant, multiple banquet rooms, traditional Japanese daiyokujo baths and a fitness center.

Located between Kyoto Main Station and numerous cultural heritage sites and traditional restaurants in central Kyoto, the hotel says it is ideally positioned for visitors arriving by the Shinkansen bullet train.

Kyoto's tourism market has shown a strong recovery following Japan's reopening of its borders following the pandemic, with visitor numbers now exceeding 2019 levels.

Currently, IHG has 59 hotels open and in the pipeline across the country.

“We are very pleased to announce our agreement with AXA IM Alts to open the Holiday Inn Kyoto Gojo in early 2025, marking the brand's return to its roots in Kyoto, where it was first launched in 1973.

Historic, cultural and beautiful Kyoto is one of the world's favorite destinations, which is why we are confident that Holiday Inn, as the world's largest family of hotel brands, along with the other IHG hotels in Kyoto, ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto and Six Senses Kyoto, will provide an “An ideal place for everyone to stay when visiting this unique and wonderful city,” said Abhijay Sandilya, General Manager of IHG Japan and Micronesia, and CEO of IHG-ANA Hotels Group Japan.
