Airplane seat maker Collins Aerospace and technology provider Panasonic Avionics have unveiled a new business class concept designed to offer passengers a “cinematic” experience.
The MAYA concept is described as “a transformative vision for a next-generation business class suite” and features a 45-inch ultra-wide, ultra-high-definition curved OLED display with headphone-free audio system.
The suite also features the ADAPT controller that synchronizes with passengers' electronic devices, providing “careful control of the seating environment and supporting advanced mobility, sensory, cognitive and language adaptations to passengers with different abilities.” .
Panasonic Avionics Corporation CEO Ken Sain said the Astrova Curve OLED was three times larger than typical displays and the first ultra-wide (21:9) CinemaScope display in the sky.
Sain added that “depending on the seat geometry and viewing angles, MAYA offers a viewing experience that is 50 percent more immersive than sitting in a theater.”
The suite was unveiled in 2024 this week. Aircraft interior exhibition in Hamburg – it will likely be several years before the MAYA concept is seen on an aircraft – no timeline or potential customers have yet been confirmed.
