Cebu Pacific adds two electric buses to airport transportation fleet at NAIA in Manila
Dark/light mode (01/18/24) Cebu Pacific has added two electric buses to its airport transportation fleet as part of its ongoing efforts to transition ground operations to the use of zero-emission electric vehicles and equipment.
The buses, leased from Therma One (T1) Transport and produced by vehicle manufacturer BYD, will transport Cebu Pacific passengers traveling to and from the gate and plane at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila , Philippines.
The initiative is part of the airline's electric vehicle (EV) transition program and builds on the success of last year's launch of EV shuttles for Cebu Pacific employees, as well as the demonstration of electric baggage tractors in NAIA Terminals 3 and 4.

“Driven by our mission towards decarbonization, we are actively exploring opportunities in the electric vehicle space and are pleased to have found a new partner in Cebu Pacific that champions decarbonization in the domestic aviation industry,” said Anthony Fernandez, president and chief operating officer of First. Balfour (T1 Transport is a wholly owned subsidiary of First Balfour). “We are confident that our partnership will contribute to a safer and more sustainable travel experience for the public.”
Cebu Pacific operates 25 buses at NAIA Terminals 3 and 4, all powered by conventional fuel. The pilot program of these two electric units will provide valuable information on their real-world performance and is an important step towards expanding the use of zero-emission vehicles and ground support equipment across Cebu Pacific operations.
“As the aviation industry recognizes the pressing need for sustainable operations, Cebu Pacific is expanding its decarbonization efforts beyond the modernization of its aircraft. The integration of electric buses into our land operations is a step in this direction,” said Alex Reyes, chief strategy officer of Cebu Pacific. “Through this approach, we aim to not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also improve the overall travel experience of our passengers.”
