Accor Greater China partners with trip.com to offer guests carbon reduction options – Business Traveler

Accor has announced a new partnership with Trip.com, which will allow guests of properties in Greater China to reduce their carbon impact through a series of green initiatives.

Customers booking stays through the Trip.com app can now select a new option on the booking page, which will see a number of sustainable practices implemented during their stay.

These include towels and sheets not being replaced daily, room temperature being adjusted, and lighting usage being controlled while guests are away.

Guests who choose to participate will receive confirmation of their carbon reduction pledge and details of the actions the hotel is taking on their behalf.

Accor said the new service had been inspired by a white paper published by the hotel group Trip.com and McKinsey & Company last year, which showed that Chinese travelers are open to traveling more sustainably “if they have the support and tools to do so.”

Commenting on the news, Gary Rosen, CEO of Accor Greater China, said:

“Accor is proud to lead the way in sustainable hospitality with another step forward that will raise awareness, engage travelers in making healthier choices and have a lasting impact on the way people travel across Greater China.

“Reducing carbon emissions and achieving transformative, sustainable change cannot be achieved by a single company. “A concerted effort is needed to bring together many industry players to achieve a greater result in reducing carbon emissions in China and around the world.”

Last year, Accor announced a commitment to third-party green certification of its Chinese hotel portfolio with the China Hospitality Association’s Green Hotel Certification.
