A marketing image for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 recently appeared online and, if accurate, it finally gives us our first look at the two foldables.
It's unknown exactly where the leak originates from, but a screenshot of the ad was posted to the GalaxyFold subreddit by user UnironicallyMe37, who claims it comes from Samsung's Kazakh website. You can even see the URL of the page in the corner, but if you go to the website right now, you won't see anything related to any of the devices. The company probably removed the image shortly after it was discovered.
The focus of the leak is the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is apparently adopting a more boxy design compared to the previous generation. The different appearance may lead some people to believe the image could be fake, but evidence suggests it is not. First of all, the square form factor matches recently found images of what is supposed to be a dummy Galaxy Z Fold 6 unit. If you look at the unit, you'll notice that it's wider than the Z Fold 5, which has corners angular.
Ironically, Me37 would go on to point out how the Galaxy Z Fold 6's rear camera system looks like a close-up photo of a smartphone lens taken by industry leaker Ice Universe. In its coverage, 9To5Google mentions how the color combination of the foldable matches that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This could mean that the Z Fold 6 could be made of titanium, as previously rumored. Metal would make the model lightweight and durable, but also expensive.
Small design update
Because the Galaxy Z Fold 6 pictured has evidence pointing to its validity, it can be safe to say that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 on the back is also legit, although it's hard to say for sure. There haven't been as many design leaks for the Z Flip 6 as there have been for the Z Fold 6.
The Galaxy Z Flip shown here looks almost identical to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with one notable difference. The rings around the lenses are color-coded to the rest of the phone. In this case, both the rings and the body are light blue. Of course, the Z Flip 6 is only visible from the back, so it's possible there are other new designs that can't be seen from the angle of the leak.
Initial reactions on social media are mostly positive, with many people seeming to really enjoy the look of the foldables, while others are a little more skeptical. A handful of users are concerned that the rear camera won't see improvements, stating that the lenses resemble the Galaxy Z Fold 3's matrix. However, rumors from earlier in the year claim that the phone's respective cameras will see several upgrades; That is to say, the Z Flip 6 will supposedly have a 50MP main lens instead of the Flip 5's 12MP option.
