Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra could soon be getting a third camera upgrade, as prominent industry leaker Ice Universe claimed on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) that the smartphone will see multiple optimizations across various features.
These changes include improvements to white balance, HDR, facial features, and video zoom, as well as fixing over-processing and overexposure issues. However, it is not known exactly how Samsung will implement these improvements.
Online reports claim that Ice Universe originally posted “samples comparing image quality before and after the update.” However, they deleted the comparison and it seems no one saved a screenshot online. While the sample is now gone, we can check out old forum posts to get an idea of what may be coming in the next update.
As for white balance, the company might tone down white colors in photos. One user on Samsung's official forums complained of “poor white balance and distortion” in the corners of the S24 Ultra. What's interesting is that white balance fixes were introduced in an April update, as tweaks were made to improve accuracy. It seems that further improvements were needed and may be rolled out soon.
Overexposure is another point of contention. People have complained that photos look too yellow and less detailed than those taken with other phones. Again, this issue has been addressed in the past, but further adjustments may have been deemed necessary.
Long-standing problems
Ice Universe claims that the patch will be released sometime next month, and that another patch may be released shortly after. They claim that there are still no optimizations for the telephoto lens or for night mode with zoom beyond 10x. The leaker hopes that Samsung will continue to fix these issues in the near future.
The S24 Ultra’s camera system has been a huge point of contention for users, with the set being marred by a number of issues. Some of which we’ve already mentioned, though they also extended to poor noise reduction and poor low-light performance. A quick Google search brings up news articles, forum posts, and YouTube videos attempting to help owners with their camera issues. Hopefully, the issues that have plagued the S24 Ultra don’t exist on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
It's not known whether Samsung plans to roll out the fixes to the base Galaxy S24 or the S24 Plus. At the time of this post, it appears the patch will be exclusive to the Ultra model.
