NYT Strands today (game #167): the answers
The answers to today's Strands game #167 are…
- SHEET
- APPLE
- PICKLE
- SALAMI
- WATERMELON
- SPANGRAM: HUNGRY CATERPILLAR
- My rating: Hard
- My rating: 5 tips
Okay, so what we have here is the most difficult and stupid Strands puzzle in weeks, unless a) you know what the reference to “Carle's classic” means and b) you remember what all the things HUNGRYCATERPILLAR ate.
I didn't remember that Eric Carle was the author of that classic children's book until I got the spangram and realized what those answers related to. In my defense, my daughters are 14. It's been at least 11 years since I read that book to them, and expecting me (or anyone else) to remember the dietary choices of a growing insect after more than a decade is, well, stupid. Also, it's called The VERY Hungry Caterpillar, but “very” doesn't appear in the spangram.
Anyway, I needed clues for every single answer except PICKLE, which I got by accident, so this was deeply unsatisfying.
