- Full frame stabilized sensor of 24.5mp of 24.5mp that Nikon ZF
- The last Expered 7 processor offers a series of performance improvements
- More expensive than Z5 at the launch, which costs £ 1,599 only body (US prices and au tbc)
Nikon has introduced the successor to his full mirror camera Z5: the powerful and more expensive, Z5 II.
It is probably time: the 24MP Z5 was launched in 2020 and began to seem a bit outdated, especially for high -speed photography and video.
Nikon has expelled the boat with the Z5 II: the second generation model offers several improvements based on performance and inherits a series of flagship characteristics, including excellent automatic approach skills.
These improvements reflect how Nikon Z50 II improved in the Z50: it was a decent update, if not radical.
The rubbing, however, is that the Z5 II feels expensive for an entry level model, and is close to stepping on the fingers of Nikon's average range models; So much so, in fact, that it could represent an update of Z6 II, the previous version of the Nikon average range model, since the Z6 III was updated.
So, the question is, does Z5 II come out of its lane, or is it a perfectly balanced offer?
Too many camera?
In the five years since its launch, the Nikon Z5 has constantly dropped in price, and can be taken for less than $ 1,000 / £ 1,000. That feels like a sensitive price label for beginners and enthusiasts considering its first full frame.
The Z5 is also surprisingly well done for an entry level model, which means that it is an excellent value for users focused on fixed images. However, in 2025 the camera specifications are somewhat modest, especially if it triggers action and video. In steps the Z5 II.
With £ 1,599 only body, or £ 1,859 with the 24-50 mm lens, the Z5 II, costs about 10% more than the Z5 when it was launched in 2020, but it is effectively twice the price of a Z5 now in 2025. In some regions, the Z5 II is also available in a kit with the LEN F/4 of 24-70 mm (£ 2,129) or with 24-200 mm of 24-200 mm. (£ 2,299). I will update this page with the price of us and Australia when you receive it.
What do you get for money? A camera with the same 24.5MP resolution as the Z5, although in a refined sensor that is identical to that of the Nikon ZF, with the stabilization of better Nikon images, now classified up to 7.5ev.
There is also the last Nikon processor, Snappier Expede 7, which offers significantly faster gusts: 14 highly high fps and 30 fps in a high -speed+plot capture mode, complete with up to a second of the previous capture when you press the shutter button halfway.
The automatic phase detection approach system with 3D follow -up is also the best version of Nikon, as is found in the emblematic models Z8 and Z9, with detection of subjects for up to nine types, including people, birds, dogs, cats, cars and airplanes.
Nikon says that the automatic Z5 II approach can detect distant and small subjects that occupy only 3% of the frame, in addition to the most sensitive approach so far, classified to -10V, which means that it is capable of acquiring focus on near darkness.
Video recording also improves a lot about Z5. Now we get a 4K 30P video with Nikon N-Log and N-Log color profiles, more 4K 60P video, although with a image area harvest. The N-Raw video can be recorded directly on a memory card, which is the first time for Nikon: the Z5 II has SD UHS-II SD slots.
It is not only the performance that received an impulse: the management of Z5 II is also improved. Its body sealed by the climate is very similar to Z6 III, which includes a 2.2 -inch tactile screen of 2.1m skills that is now the type of varied angle, which means that it can be turned to the side of the camera and be reversed for selfies. The EVF of 3.69m-Dot is also three times brighter, with a rating of 3,000 nits at 1,000 Nutes of the Z5.
And, as in the Z50 II, there is an image control button, with which users can select the color profile they like, including the recipes that can be downloaded from the Nikon and / or personalized images cloud.
In general, it is a considerable update without swinging the boat, even if the sale price pushes it a bit. That said, we will not work too much at the cost point, because Nikon has a discount history its cameras more quickly and much than the rivals.
The fact that the Z5 II addresses the three Z6 III updates that I wanted as a Z6 II user is super impressive: Nikon's Z5 series has just increased the bar for the entry level performance.
We are currently carrying out an in -depth review of the Nikon Z5 II, and we will soon share our experiences.
