Business leaders and those in charge of formulating global policies meet to explore China's leadership in API innovation and industry impulse
June 18, 2025, Shanghai: GSMA MWC25 Shanghai officially opened today during an opening ceremony at the Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai. The three -day event brings together around 400 speakers and opinion leaders for a dynamic program of key notes, conferences and exhibition clues in the new International Shanghai Expo Center (SNIEC). The agenda of this year's conference focuses on the issues: 5G Inside, AI+, connected industries and enablers connected.

Shanghai MWC25's opening ceremony was organized by John Hoffman, CEO of Gsma Ltd., and Sihan Bo Chen, head of the Gran China at the GSMA, with key notes throughout the morning of Yang Jie, president, president, China Mobile; ZHU HUARONG, President, Chongqing Changan car; Zhang Zhiyong, president, Chinese tower; Eric Xu, vice president and rotary president, Huawei; Anna Yip, CEO, International Digital Services, Singteland Vivek Badrinath, general director of the GSMA.

Conduct the impulse of Gsma Open Gateway in China
MWC25 Shanghai organizes the GSMA Open Gateway summit today, gathering operators, developers and companies to explore the commercialization of Network API. The groups of global mobile operators that participate in the GSMA Open Gateway initiative represent almost 80% of global mobile connections. The summit sessions explore monetization strategies, the integration of Genai and the implementations of the real world, which underlines the growing role of APIs in the configuration of industries around the world.
Chinese network API spending represented 94% of the global Total in 2024 (USD514 million) and it is forecast to grow to USD2.8bn by 2030, according to new analysis of Analysis Mason1. GSMA Open Gateway offers a standardized approach to Network API that allows developers to easily connect their new digital services to multiple mobile networks. All 14 mobile network operators in Gran China have joined the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, and the country already sees successful quality API at the request of marketed displayed in multiple industries, including mobile games, financial services, media and manufacturing.
IMPLOYMENT OF THE PROMOTING INDUSTRY
The Foundry GSMA, the reference center for the collaboration and business development of the cross industry, organizes a series of innovation exhibitions in MWC25 Shanghai. The most prominent aspects will include the agentic Mobile agentic for Telco; Skylo's demonstration of satellite messages for emergency connectivity; and the collaboration solution of multiple ZTE agents.
MWC25 Shanghai houses the GTI Summit, exploring the 5G-Avanzado path to 6g and convergence trends of next-generation technologies. The winning teams will be announced for the challenge “New call X AI”, recognized by GSMA Foundry, and the GTI 5G-A × AI Development Program.
New for this year, MWC25 Shanghai presents the GSMA Innovation Frontier Zone and the GSMA Policies Leaders Forum, and is organizing the 2025 World Robot Contest Qualifier and the Iarote. Conduct the progress of climate action
The GSMA today launched the Net Zero Mobile Report Enter China. For the first time, mobile operators in China registered a 4% decrease in operational emissions, despite rapid growth in user demand and 5G implementation.
MWC Shanghai also presents a new recycling program this year in association with SNIEC. Recycling containers have been placed in N1 – N5 halls to collect plastic bottles, cans and printed materials.
