Exploring the transformative impact of AI and publishing the report “Operator Practice: Reference Cases for Verticals Powered by Large AI Models“
December 11, 2024, Beijing: The GSMA hosted its New Year's Eve Gala in Beijing today, bringing together leading figures and distinguished thinkers from China's media, technology and mobile ecosystems. Among the more than 150 attendees and speakers from more than 100 organizations at the event were senior representatives from China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Sun Media Group, Baidu, Context Lab, Future Labs, Xuanyuan Academy and AsiaInfo.
It is carried out under the theme “Breaking boundaries to drive innovation and drive change”The event featured an agenda of keynotes and panels that explored the latest trends affecting the mobile ecosystem, to inspire new perspectives for the coming year. Topics covered include the importance of establishing responsible practices for the use of AI, the transformative opportunities that technology presents for the telecommunications industry and vertical sectors, the use of AI in the connectivity industry, and the rise of electric vehicles and industrial digitalization in China. and how it can best expand into global markets.
GSMA Greater China Director Sihan Bo Chen said: “The mobile industry in China is leading the way in leveraging 5G, cloud and computing to explore new business models and drive positive change across verticals, diversifying its services beyond core connectivity. The rise of the AI and electric vehicle sectors shows the growing contributions of Chinese stakeholders to global development. Looking ahead, I look forward to seeing Chinese industries collaborate more widely with the international community through the GSMA's unrivaled global platforms and facilitate innovations that will help the sector grow.”
Exploring best practices from large AI model operators in China
The GSMA marked the coming together of China's mobile and adjacent ecosystems with the publication of a landmark report on best practices from large AI model operators across verticals. The report features case studies in sectors including government, customer services, industrial applications, healthcare, education, cultural tourism, urban governance and more, as well as practical guidance for future implementations across industries.
Featured implementations include:
- “Four predictions” flood control system in Ningxia: China Mobile has collaborated deeply with the water conservation industry in the “Four Pre-” (prediction, pre-warning, pre-test and pre-planning) flood control project at the eastern foot of Helan Mountain in Ningxia. Leveraging advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins and big data, they have created an intelligent computing power service platform, significantly improving the digitalization, intelligence and precision of the “Pre-Four” of water conservation. The project achieved real-time simulation, monitoring, prediction and optimization of the operational state of the water system, improving the pre-test reasoning and effects of a flood scenario. This has made significant contributions to the goals of sustainable water resource utilization and disaster prevention and mitigation.
- Sichuan dialect multimodal protection: China Telecom has created a multi-modal artificial intelligence database for the Sichuan dialect, enabling dialect speech recognition, synthesis and other capabilities. This serves as a bridge for cultural exchange, alleviating linguistic communication barriers, and has been successfully applied in fields such as cultural tourism and live broadcasting to help farmers, promoting dialect protection and heritage. This not only encourages the protection and development of cultural diversity, but also facilitates global cultural exchange and cooperation, contributing to the goal of sustainable development.
- Yuanjing Grand Urban Governance Model Reshaping Urban Governance: China Unicom leverages Yuanjing's urban governance model to address complex issues in the urbanization process, such as traffic congestion and environmental pollution. This model integrates various urban data, providing comprehensive insights and predictions to help relevant governments and departments make scientific decisions. It has not only significantly improved the level of urban governance and service efficiency, but also optimized resource allocation, improved urban operational efficiency, and provided innovative solutions for sustainable urban development.
The New Year's Eve Gala is the last event on the GSMA calendar, returning next year with GSMA MWC25 Barcelona between March 3 and 6. It is carried out under the theme Converge. Connect. Create.MWC25 Barcelona will bring together high-level government ministers, industry leaders and founders for the world's largest and most influential connectivity event.
