- Fujifilm is expected to start a half-frame digital camera called X-Half
- Online leaks suggest a 1 inch sensor, 10 mm lens f/2.8 and vertical LCD
- Teaser Trailer suggests a launch line, with the line 'See You Soon'
Fujifilm is working on something peculiar. If the rumors are correct, you are ready to launch a half -frame digital camera that puts a contemporary turn in the classic film photography format. It is expected to be called half X, and it could be the most unusual Fujifilm camera in years.
Fujifilm recently made fun of the launch of the new model in an official clip, with the motto “half the size, twice the story.” This subtitle adds weight to online speculation that the camera will shoot half -frame images using a digital sensor. A gloomy silhouette that is shown in that video also suggests that half X will adopt the retro analog style of the recent Fujifilm cameras, including the X100VI.
What else can we expect from half X? Fujifilm has joked in an imminent launch with the 'See You Soon' line, but we don't know exactly when the camera will be revealed. What we do have is a list of filtered specifications, shared by reliable online sources. Taken together, they suggest that half X will be a fun camera with a potentially viral retro attractive, designed to tempt photographers of smartphone to the property of the camera.
Here are five characteristics that we hope to see in the most strange camera of 2025.
Attend
1. Medium Marco Photography
The main feature of half X is expected to be half frame photography. Traditionally, this technique allowed analog cameras to capture two exhibitions of portraits in a single frame of a 35 mm film, giving photographers twice the number of fixed images of a roll. The resulting compound images were known as 'diptychs', with two vertical scenes combined from side to side.
It is not clear how Fujifilm will execute this effect on a digital camera, but it is expected to be the key point of half X. According to the information from unidentified sources, Fuji rumors has suggested that the new camera will allow you to press the shutter once to capture the first half of the image, and then again to shoot the second.
2. 1 inch sensor
Fuji Rumors also reported that half X will have a 1 inch sensor. This conforms to its positioning such as a Premium aim and firing: that sensor size would be smaller than APS-C, which allows Fujifilm to package half X with compact proportions, but still captures more light and detail than the best camera phones.
There has been a lot of talk about the orientation of the sensor. Several sources have suggested that it could be placed vertically, allowing half X to natively shoot the portrait images that are then composed digitally in diptychs. This configuration will also be lent to content creation: assuming that the camera has a standard mode, vertical images are ideal for sharing in the social medial.
3. 10 mm fixed lens f/2.8
The recent șPEC leaks have suggested that the Fujiiflm half frame will have a fixed 10 mm lens with an opening of F/2.8. Combined with a 1 -inch sensor, which would give it a full -frame equivalent of 28 mm, a focal length that we have seen in good use in other premium compacts, including the ricoh gr III. It is a natural adjustment for street photography and a family member for smartphone users.
The F/2.8 opening is quite slow for a fixed lens, especially matched with a 1 inch sensor. This combination will limit both low light yield and field depth effect. If necessary, that probably reflects the positioning of half X as a fun point, of entry and shooting level instead of a serious photography tool.
4. Vertical LCD screen
Another rumor that circulates online is related to the LCD screen. According to Fuji's rumors, half X will have at least one screen oriented vertically. Based on the advance of advance, we believe we know why. In that clip, a Provia film logo is visible in the back of the camera. We believe that this suggests that half X will have a digital film view window to show the selected film mode, emulating the physical equivalent found in some analog cameras.
It is a feature that we have seen before: in X-Pro 3, a mini screen showed the chosen film simulation recipe. Given the central approach of half of the X in analog emulation, including a rumored 'film roll' mode that blocks the configuration for 36 exhibitions, we would not surprise us to see an LCD screen dedicated to showing the logo of the selected film. This may sound trick, but leans strongly in hybrid analog aesthetics.
5. OPHICAL OPICATOR
So does the suggestion that half X will have an optical viewfinder instead of an evf. This would be another nod to the analog cameras of medium frame, especially if they are oriented vertically (as is in the Pentax 17, a recent resurgence of the mid -frame film format and one of the best movie cameras you can buy in 2025).
Together with a physical exposure compensation dial, an optical viewfinder could give users the impression that they are filming in a film with an analog camera, despite the digital sensor inside. The question is how effectively Fuji can execute and present this proposal, without half x feeling like a novel camera, which some purists already call it.
