Smart home brand Eve Energy is apparently working on a new outdoor smart plug that can give you the ability to control other devices on the network.
This information comes from a publication found on the official website of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). It consists of a picture of the plug along with a brief description of what it can do. The device itself is compact and square in shape with what appears to be a black flap to protect the plugs. According to the accompanying text, the Eve plug will allow owners to control their home's smart lights and appliances using voice commands or through the official app. It will even tell you how much power your other devices consume.
CSA's product page goes on to state that the outdoor plug will be compatible with the Thread and Matter standards. The former ensures that home network connections work reliably at all times, while the latter protects them from external forces. Matter also makes it easy to integrate your devices with smart home ecosystems like Google Home or Amazon Alexa.
Missing features
That's pretty much all the information we can glean from the CSA post. The rest of the description talks about how easy it will be to set up. Below are some product details, as well as a link to the outdoor plug compliance document. We reviewed the document ourselves, but could not find any additional information. It mainly consists of XML files that explain how it can work in a smart home network.
Tech news site NotebookCheck in its report theorizes that the upcoming Eve plug could behave similarly to the current indoor model. The outside plug could have a calendar scheduling tool in addition to a child lock feature. But again, nothing is confirmed at the moment. There is no information on what other features it will have, how big it will be, or its weather resistance rating. However, if we were to make a wild guess, it may have an IP65 rating, meaning it will be completely protected from dust and can survive splashes of water.
A release date could not be found, although considering that we may have the final design, the launch could be just around the corner.
