Android gets a handy new split-screen mode just in time for the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Google has already set August 13, 2024 as the date when it intends to show off new hardware, software, and likely plenty of AI features. However, now a new report gives us a better idea of some of the capabilities of the new devices.

While we're still waiting for the launch of the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro and a third-generation Pixel Watch, Google could also be preparing to show off its next-generation foldable device, i.e. the successor to the Pixel Fold.

Android Authority reports that the upcoming foldable device, likely called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will have a new split-screen feature. So, if you use the device in portrait orientation, you can easily split the screen and run two apps side-by-side, from left to right.

The discovery was made in Android 14 build QPR2, which has code for this specific “portrait fold” functionality. Considering the next Pixel Fold is expected to have a square aspect ratio, this fits in pretty well, and Android Authority gives us the scoop on that as well. The report notes that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s main display will likely be 2076 x 2152, as the code indicates this is the default resolution for portrait orientation.
