Amy Smilovic has a knack for creating pragmatic garments with thoughtful and functional details. At Tibi's fall presentation at the brand's SoHo store, she described her latest collection as clothing that continues to offer customer versatility with integrated style.
“I want people to feel like they made it theirs; They found a way to get him to say something without yelling. It has all our characteristic ease and modernity and many sporty details that have always been there in the past. “It’s a part of our ethos, so we dive more and more into it because it’s not a trend for us, it’s just the way we live our lives,” he said. Tibi is synonymous with confidence and not too self-conscious, which is exactly what Smilovic wants to feel in the intuitive designs of him.
Enter model Kristen McMenamy, who Smilovic says was exactly that, so he tapped her to capture the look and spirit of the collection through a series of black and white photographs, taken by Lara Angelil, that covered the walls of the store with clever handwritten personal captions. .
“Kristen in her own world, we don't exist, dressed in snails,” said one. “Kristen is experimenting, wearing a short bubble skirt” (and a double-breasted jacket), and “Kristen listening to a new song, wearing two sweaters” (with circular neck holes placed irregularly on the sides and hem), etc. , etc.
Even Tibi fashion on the racks: short jackets; pants that could be buttoned or lowered with double waistbands; Blouses with sculptural sleeves and high-waisted pants, and capes with sporty details, like a hooded coat, were hung on handmade ceramic hangers by artist Kara Janx alongside footwear with cool, quirky details (including new rain boots transparent “hyperfunctional”).
Additionally, Japanese denim is still a big program for the brand, this season with a longer, slimmer silhouette, but “it's not a tight fit by any stretch of the imagination,” Smilovic noted.
