The Federation, the governing body of French fashion, said the eight-day season will feature 108 events, a total of 70 shows and 38 presentations. A season that will also see the catwalk debut of Alessandro Michele at Valentino; while other emerging design houses such as Alain Paul and Niccolò Pasqualetti will make their catwalk debut in Paris.

According to the provisional schedule, five fashion labels – Abra, Julie Kegels, Magda Butrym, Vaillant and Vautrait – will debut their first independent presentations, while three labels will return to the Paris season with pre-arranged presentations: Aigle, Heliot Emil and Christopher Esber, the recent winner of the prestigious Andam Prize.

The season will run from Monday, September 23 to Tuesday, October 1, and will kick off with six shows on Monday, headlined by the avant-garde label Weinsanto. On the final day, the show will culminate with three influential megabrands: Chanel, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton.

The Chanel show will be the first since creative director Virginie Viard left after five years at the helm and will also mark Chanel's return to the Grand Palais. This magnificent late 19th-century exhibition space, constructed of glass and cut stone, has undergone extensive renovation for the Olympics and will only be free for public events after the two-week Paralympic Games, which end on Sunday, September 8.

Although Coperni's final show of the season is not on the calendar, as the Federation considers it a stand-alone event, in a novel move, Coperni will hold its next show outside of Paris, at Disneyland Europe.

Other important brands that will present shows will be Saint Laurent, Courrèges, The Row, Balmain, Chloé, Christian Dior, Schiaparelli, Loewe, Yohji Yamamoto, Hermès, McQueen, Akris and Zimmermann.

Insiders will notice a couple of surprises on the schedule, most notably Balenciaga's shift from its traditional first Monday evening at 7 p.m. time slot to the second Monday.

There is no show scheduled for Maison Margiela, which has not shown its ready-to-wear collection in Paris since last October. With the news that its creative director, John Galliano, plans to leave the house, Maison Margiela has informed the Federation that it will organize “an event in October,” although it is not clear what or where at the moment.
