A look at Vinted convinced Marie Adam-Leenaerdt that a skirt could be more than a “garment that cinches the waist and reaches variable lengths on the legs,” as she put it in her collection notes.
“People just hang them on anything when taking pictures,” he said. “That changes the idea of category because a skirt with a hanger slid down the waist ends up looking like a dress.”
In her fall collection, the Belgian designer turned the garment into a complete wardrobe, turning a cape into a pleated number; She reworked a long denim version into a column dress and created a skirt so high that a lace petticoat became a top and stockings became a sheer mini.
There were even some that could, wait for it, become skirts again, thanks to clever hidden buttons. The introduction of knitwear and a handful of quilted coats completed Adam-Leenaerdt's range.
The Belgian designer said she wanted to challenge the perception of a garment as a single-function item, particularly given the profusion of the category. “Eliminate the categories,” she said, adding with a laugh: “Good luck knowing where to list them in [e-commerce] sites.”
Adam-Leenaerdt's bags continued to appear on the show. A new model could be expanded thanks to zippers, while the largest size took the expression “ridiculously spacious” to a comical level. They helped demonstrate that Adam-Leenaerdt's imagination has strength for days.
