Giorgio Armani piled on crystals, colors and patterns at Privé Couture

A recent study conducted by New York fashion label Jovani and distributed by journalistic.org suggests that Giorgio Armani is the luckiest designer to wear during Hollywood awards season.

After analyzing the key female categories at the 2014 Golden Globes, Emmys and Oscars, Jovani found that 13 percent of all actresses who wore Armani took home a trophy.

Armani's Privé couture show for spring 2024 fell on the same day that the Oscar nominees were revealed, and so in the world of luck there are no coincidences.

If best actress nominees Annette Bening, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Huller, Carey Mulligan and Emma Stone want to hedge their bets, they better be prepared to wear expressive colors, prints, glitter and sparkles galore if they choose their dress from the Privé runway . .

On Tuesday night, the Italian designer was in an expressive, playful and experimental mood. He didn't commit to moiré fabrics like Dior's Maria Grazia Chiuri, despite what Privé's invitation and the show's set might have suggested.

Instead, she played within the register of delicacy, wanderlust and maximalism, often combining transparencies, lace, prints and crystals in a single ensemble.

There was mastery in the layering of chiffon and jacquard fabrics, many with patterns reminiscent of the tropical wallpaper depicted in the opening credits of the first season of “White Lotus.”

Small crystals dotted most of the fabrics, from the dense layers of degrade ruffled scarves on a full-skirted party dress to traditional lace blouses, cardigan jackets and loose kimono tunics.

Press releases cited an “open embrace of different cultures,” resulting in a “fully imagined journey from West to East.” Armani's strong design hand blurred any obvious references, imagining a “woman who takes something from every place she visits and makes it her own.”

The designer opted more for his intense decorative motifs than for silhouettes, knowing that his clients, some more famous than others, span a variety of ages, nationalities and lifestyles.

Front-row guest Glenn Close could be seen admiring Armani's fingertip-length jackets and sparkly pants; Google executive and Parisian “It” girl Zita d'Hauteville taking photos of the tight-fitting mermaid dresses, and Gwyneth Paltrow looking at the looser, bohemian-inspired dresses.

Among the notable actresses who have won a statue wearing Armani are Jessica Chastain at the 2022 Oscars, Renée Zellweger in 2020 at the Golden Globes and Zendaya at the 2020 Emmys. As for Jovani, the Italian maestro surpassed Valentino, who Was in second place. Prada was third.
