Isabel Marant's fall collection is for the mix-and-match man who wants ease with his wardrobe, keeping it casual while incorporating key pieces from the sartorial trend.
Originally a descendant of his more casual Étoile line for women, which borrowed the masculine look from boys, Marant doesn't shy away from traditionally feminine touches and mixes them up to less than literal effect. Fuzzy floral prints on short-sleeve button-down shirts have a tie-dye effect, for example, while gradient pastels color-coordinate the hems of T-shirts.
The Marant man isn't entirely immune to the suit trend: Pair a tailored blazer with cargo pants or a striped button-down with a denim jacket, and give the “Grandpa-core” trend a boost with a soft knit printed cardigan. Marant's use of pale pink will also work well this season.
“We shouldn't be afraid to style your look however you want,” said creative director Kim Bekker. “We return to a more sophisticated situation [trend]but dare a little more and why not put it all together to create your own identity?”
“It's more about creating a wardrobe where you can pick out a few items,” Marant added. “We wanted to show a man who did not [stress] to make a silhouette. In reality they are two different universes.”
It's a tactile collection with lots of knits and takes a carefree approach to the classics with combinations like sports shorts paired with a strong coat to create a gym-going gentleman vibe.
Marant said that a big surprise since the launch of the men's line is the success of jewelry, which men want to purchase to complete their looks. It is selling well as a growing accessories category.
