The group stage is the first step towards World Cup glory.
The 48 nations playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been divided into 12 groups (labeled AL) of four teams each. With the expanded knockout format of 32 teams advancing beyond the group stage, winning the group has become more important than ever.
After beating South Africa 2-0 in the opening match of the World Cup, Mexico's odds of winning Group A went from -140 to -185. Additionally, after South Korea's comeback win over Czechia, their odds of winning the group increased from +350 to +195.
Both Czechia and South Africa, two nations that lost on the first day of the tournament, saw their odds decrease significantly.
With the first Group A matches now in the books, all eyes turn to Group D on Friday.
Can the US men's team replicate Mexico's strong start to the tournament in its opening match against Paraguay and take firm control of Group D?
