MAIN NEWS: Navas ready to sign for Barcelona
Keylor Navas is set to sign for Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo, as the Catalan club desperately search for a replacement for injured goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
Ter Stegen, 32, underwent successful surgery on Monday after completely tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee in Sunday's 5-1 La Liga win at Villarreal.
Sources have told ESPN that Barcelona's hierarchy will hold emergency talks this week to discuss whether to sign a free agent goalkeeper and the Spanish outlet reports that former Real Madrid goalkeeper Navas is one of the first players to throw his hat in the ring. Navas spent five years with The whites from 2014 to 2019 and is currently available after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season after his contract with the French team expired.
The report reveals that the 37-year-old would be willing to join Barcelona, if he is assured that he will be a regular at the Spanish giants. It is reported that salary should not be a concern for the deal, as the Costa Rica international is simply eager to play football.
Although Navas has received several offers following the conclusion of his contract with PSG, he is understood to have rejected them in favour of a move where he will be the first-choice goalkeeper. This comes after several seasons at PSG in which he has played second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, Navas is not the only option for Barcelona. Sport has reported that Barça are interested in the Las Palmas goalkeeper. Alvaro Valles as a potential option in January. The 27-year-old has not been playing as he has not reached an agreement with the club over a new contract. His ball-carrying skills as a goalkeeper are reported to be appealing to Barcelona, but whether or not they are willing to wait until January is another question.
