The French president urges Real Madrid to let Mbappé play in the Olympic Games

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that he hoped Kylian Mbappé would play at this year's Paris Olympics.

The French forward confirmed on Friday that he would be leaving Paris Saint-Germain and has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.

“I have no particular comment to make other than the fact that I am counting on Real Madrid to release Kylian for the Olympic Games so that he can play with the French team,” Macron said in a video posted on his X account.

Macron made a similar statement last month, saying at the time: “I think European clubs need to play so we can put on a great show.”

Mbappe said he wanted to play in the Olympics in a press conference ahead of France's game against Germany in March, although he added that “it's not up to me.”

Mbappé, 25, played 77 times for France and scored a goal in the 2018 World Cup final against Croatia to help his team win the trophy.
