The former midfielder of the city of Arsenal, Juventus and Cardiff, Aaron Ramsey, will continue his career in Mexico.
Ramsey, 34, officially signed with Pumas on Thursday, announced the Lliga MX team.
Ramsey, who already has a work visa to play in Liga MX, arrived in Mexico City on Tuesday to make a doctor before signing his contract with first -class Pumas.
“I am excited to play and be part of this historic club, I can't wait to be in the countryside,” Ramsey said at Mexico City airport.
Pumas is considered one of the four most popular teams in the country, although he has not won a title since the 2011 Clausura Tournament.
“I've seen some games [from Liga MX] And I am very impressed, there are some really good squads here and I am excited to be in this competition now, “Ramsey said.
The news follows a June report from ESPN that Pumas and Ramsey were in advanced conversations for the International of Wales.
Pumas coach Efraín Juárez, who is represented by the same agency as the twice arsenal player of the season, was essential to bring Ramsey to Mexico City.
Ramsey ended last season with an interim charge of the Hometown Club Cardiff City, since they were relegated from the Championship to the League one. With 86 appearances for Wales, the midfielder helped his country to reach the semifinals of the 2016 Eurocup.
Ramsey said in April that the “World Cup is a massive carrot that is being hung”, and now the captain of Wales will seek to maintain its form before the 2026 tournament that will be organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Despite being one of the traditional “great” MX League, Pumas has fought. In the last season of Clausura 2025, the Mexico City team ended tenth in the regular season and were knocked out in the playoff round.
Since 1996, Liga MX plays two tournaments every year. The first, called Clausura, begins in January and ends in May and the next opening begins on July 11 and will end in December.
As of July, Pumas will also participate in the Ligas Cup, a Joint Liga MX-MLS joint tournament in which Ramsey will face the Inter Miami CF of Lionel Messi on August 6.
