Creighton men's basketball coach Greg McDermott has agreed to a contract extension through the 2027-28 season, sources told ESPN.
The new deal will make McDermott one of the highest-paid coaches in the Big East.
McDermott has coached Creighton since 2010, guiding the Bluejays to eight NCAA Tournament appearances. They have won at least one game in each of the last three tournaments, including last season's run to the Elite Eight, where they lost to San Diego State.
Creighton is on track for a potential second or third seed in this month's NCAA tournament, with the Bluejays 22-8 overall and 13-6 in the Big East heading into the regular-season finale of the Saturday at Villanova. They had one of the most impressive wins of the season in late February, when they defeated then-No. 1 University of Connecticut 85-66.
Before taking over at Creighton, McDermott was the head coach at Iowa State and Northern Iowa, where he made three NCAA Tournament appearances. McDermott's son, Doug, was a three-time All-American during his time at Creighton and the national player of the year in 2014.
McDermott's new contract leaves him out of the mix for any openings this spring. He had recently been linked to the vacancy at Ohio State.
