The left -hander of the Texas Rangers, Patrick Corbin, won his first victory of the season on Wednesday night, but it was a beginning that he could hardly do.
Corbin and the Rangers believe that the culprit was “poison” of an apparent bite in his foot two days before his start, which made it difficult to walk.
“They said something bit me, but I still don't know what it was,” Corbin told reporters on Thursday. “I've never had something like that. It was very strange.”
Hours before Corbin allowed a race in 5⅓ entries in a 3-1 victory over Los Angeles Angels, the Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said it was “50/50” if he would launch due to the condition of his ankle.
Corbin said the swelling had developed around a brand of visible bite on his foot on Wednesday morning, but that it was “tolerable” after his ankle wrapped him.
“It was really bad in the morning,” said Corbin. “Just a really swollen foot … I wasn't sure if I was going to throw that morning. My wife was really worried. I entered early [Wednesday] To put some treatment and [went] of that. “
Corbin said he still felt pain in the ankle on Thursday, but trusted that he wouldn't need to waste time.
“I was lucky to overcome yesterday,” said Corbin. “I have time to recover and be good to go.”
Corbin, twice All-Star entering his 13th season, joined the Rangers in a one-year contract in March. It has 1-0 with an effectiveness of 3.86 in two openings.
