Gold medal-winning Olympic gymnasts Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey are returning to school.
Chiles and Carey, part of the “Golden Girls” team led by Simone Biles that won gold in Paris last week, announced they will return to college.
Chiles, who also won a bronze medal in the floor exercise on Monday, returns to UCLA. Carey, who increased her career Olympic medal total to three by also winning a bronze medal on vault, returns to Oregon State.
Carey has one year of eligibility remaining; Chiles will have two after being on reserve last season to prepare for a shot at the Olympics.
Both have spoken at length about how they have thrived in a college environment. Carey noted that the comfort she felt competing for the Beavers was one of the reasons she stayed in school while preparing for the Olympics at the same time.
Chiles has said leaving school was difficult but necessary for her education, and she made it her mission to stay close to the program during her gap year.
