Charlottesville, Virginia-Duke in third classification defeated Virginia 80-62 on Monday night, but lost the Maliq Brown Key Reserve in the process.
Brown dislocated his left shoulder with 1:21 remaining in the first half, said Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer, and did not return. Images were expected to be made later on Monday.
“It's a great loss to us,” said Scheyer. “Discover what the deal is and then go from there. I don't know more than that.”
The 9 -foot junior 9 inches, which was transferred from Syracuse, is the second in the team with 30 robberies and third with nine blocked shots.
“He has been a great teammate,” said Kon Knueppel. “It is very selfless and [a] Great passerby. … is very, very shocking for our team. “
The game, which was Duke's third consecutive victory, was a return home for Brown, which grew in Culpeper, one hour away.
Brown had two points, two assists and a rebound in 10 minutes. He seemed to hurt his left arm that reached a lane that passes to divert a ball.
An hour after the game, Brown left the locker room to greet family fans and the Duke. He took photos with his arm in a sling before heading to the team bus.
With Marginated Brown, Duke turned to Patrick Ngongba II, who scored eight points and grabbed a bounce in 11 minutes.
Scheyer said that Ngongba has developed during the season and will be ready to contribute if Brown's injury keeps him out for the next Blue Devils game, which is against Illinois on Saturday in Madison Square Garden.
Scheyer pointed out that Ngongba played significant minutes in the Blue Devils victory over Wake Forest in January.
Scheyer said the players who are not having much play time in their program compete in the “Stay Ready” games to keep them sharp and prepared in case they are pressured in action.
“I've seen so much growth throughout the season,” said Scheyer. “He has been in some great moments.”
