Details about the skills contest
Unlike previous years, where each All-Star would compete in at least one event, in the new format only 12 All-Stars will face off in a series of eight events, with points earned for placement in each. The player with the most points at the end will receive 1 million dollars.
The first eight players to compete will be identified by the NHL Hockey Operations Department and the NHLPA; Fans will vote among the final four (only All-Stars are eligible to be voted).
The events for the 2024 All-Star Skills Competition are:
Each player will choose four of the first six events to compete in; Players with the lowest score after the first six events will be eliminated. For the penalty shootout, the remaining eight players can select which goalkeeper they will shoot against. The top six scores after that event advance to the final stage, the obstacle course, where total points are doubled.
