Miguel Almirón said he feels he is “at home” now that he will return to Atlanta United.
The movement of $ 12.5 million of Almirón of the Premier League Newcastle United team was officially announced on Thursday. He came to the welcome of a hero at Hartsfield International Airport on Thursday night, signing autographs, taking photos with fans and listening to fans sing, “Miggy, Miggy”.
“I feel at home,” he said during a telephone conference with journalists with the help of a translator. “Especially last night, the welcome was really pleasant and it was great to see him and I feel that I am at home.”
The movement occurs six years after he left the five stripes for the bright lights of the Premier League. After some early struggles, Almirón dedicated himself to Newcastle fans through his work rate and tenacity. His peak arrived during the 2022-23 season when he scored 11 goals in 41 games in all competitions.
“I think that fans in Newcastle also treated me very well,” he said. “I think it is the same level of affection that I have received from both fans. I feel for fans here in Atlanta. “
When Almirón departed in 2018, the dynamics of the International of Paraguay extends through the wing was what caught the attention. Now 30 years, Almirón feels that Atlanta is receiving an even more rounded player than when he left.
“I think in the six years I was in England, that experience helped,” he said. “I think I have matured and I think I will try to use that experience. I will try to take it to the group here to try to help the group in the way I can. And I think for those reasons, they also brought me back.”
While Almirón talked about how much had not changed much with Atlanta United, a difference is that the striker with whom he connected so often, Josef Martínez, has long gone, and now he is with the earthquakes of San José. Almirón said the two are still close.
“I always talk to him. He is one of my best friends in football, so I have shared many things with him and we talk,” he said. “These things happen in football. We took different paths as players. So, when I left, I was taking a different path to go to Newcastle … God, maybe, maybe we will find a way to meet again.”
