Now there is another strange injury within the New York Mets.
Just one day after Brandon Nimmo was hospitalized after collapsing in his hotel room, JD Martinez suffered a mysterious scrape with what the team said was a sore ankle.
It doesn't appear to be a long-term issue, but Martinez said it was due to a pair of cleats he had worn on Monday.

Martinez said she had to opt for a last-minute order from Amazon because the model she usually uses suffered delivery delays.
“To be honest, I haven't gotten my cleats yet and I had to try on new ones yesterday,” Martinez said Tuesday night. “I woke up this morning and my ankle was hurting. … I went to bat in the cage and I had a really bad pain in my ankle.”
That's when Martinez decided he needed a day off.
Martinez said he wears a new pair of Adidas boots every three or four days, but the new pair had an extra metal spike that he says is causing the pain.

“Just moving around and putting on a new shoe is different,” he said.
Martinez said he has since removed the excess spikes, but prefers to keep his regular boots.
The Mets were without Martinez for the first nine innings, but scored five runs in the 10th to defeat their NL East rival, the Washington Nationals, 7-2.
Martinez is hitting .278 with an .853 OPS in 56 games played this season. He missed nearly a month because he signed too late in the offseason, so the Mets put him in extended spring training. Then he suffered an injury that caused him to miss more time.
