Chestnut didn't run away from the start, as he was neck and neck with 2024 champion Patrick Bertoletti and James Webb for the first 90 seconds.

But once that time passed, Chestnut began to distance himself from the competition. Through three minutes, Chestnut had 28, while Webb had 22 and Bertoletti had 21. But at the halfway point, Chestnut had eaten 42 hot dogs and had a 10-hot dog lead.

Chestnut stayed at a record pace (76) with four minutes left, but like all eating contests, fatigue and a full stomach were coupled with near triple-digit heat. Chestnut hit the 60 mark with 60 seconds left, and officials tallied his 66 afterward.

He admitted that he knew he wouldn't get the record from the start, but stayed calm to take home the victory.

Chestnut competed in the event while serving a 180-day probation sentence after pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery stemming from slapping a man while intoxicated at an Indiana bar earlier this year. He was granted permission to travel to New York for the event.
