The U.S. men's national soccer team had an opening game at the Paris Olympics it probably wanted to forget.
France hosted the United States at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille on Wednesday night and routed them 3-0 with goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Michael Olise and Loic Bade.

The Americans held France to zero for the first 60 minutes of the match. In the 61st minute, Lacazette broke the deadlock with a long-range goal past goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. It was enough to give France momentum in the match.
Olise finished off with a goal past Schulte in the 69th minute and then Bade put the finishing touch to the match in the 85th minute.

American Griffin Yow, who came on in the 76th minute in place of Patrick Aaronson, thought he had scored a goal late in the game, but was ruled offside by the referees. Djordie Mihailovic also thought he had scored a goal for the Americans early in the game, but the ball hit the crossbar.
France took the lead in Group A with a 3-0 victory, overtaking New Zealand, who had beaten Guinea 2-1 earlier in the day.
Men's Olympic football became an under-23 competition at the 1992 Barcelona Games, meaning players such as Kylian Mbappé and Christian Pulisic will not be taking part.

The U.S. team will play New Zealand on Saturday. France will play Guinea.
