A former protagonist of PGA Tour wanted the CBS announcer Jim Nantz to entrust Rory Mcilroy more after missing his put putt in the Green 18 that would have won teachers without the need for a playoff.
When Mcilroy left the bunker, he had a few feet to save and his green jacket in the Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday. But his putt stayed to the left and was lost in his hole 72 of the tournament, forcing a sudden death playoff with Justin Rose, who sank a Birdie in the same green before to finish 11 bass.
Of course, Mcilroy went to Birdie on 18 in that playoff, and he was pure emotion in green while customers roared around him while completing the Grand Slam of his career.

But the former PGA Professional Tour Steve Elkington was a vocal in X after listening to Nantz simply saying: “We are going to a playoff,” while Mcilroy took advantage of his bogey to fall to 11 bass.
“That could be the best collapse in the history of golf and f — CBS says: 'We have a playoff',” Elkington wrote in X.

Elkington, the 62 -year -old Australian, felt that Nantz and the rest of the stations had to be more critical of Mcilroy at that time. It could have been an epic collapse for the man who not only had not won the masters, but also lost a great victory in the last 11 years, including a collapse in the US 2024 open.
Elkington continued to criticize Mcilroy, saying that his focus on number 18 from 125 yards is as easy as professionals.
“That was a wedge in the right bunker in 18 … a wedge,” he said.

While Elkington was critical, there were many who loved what Nantz and CBS were doing at the moment of high stress, allowing the suspense to take the transmission while Mcilroy made its way through their tumultuous final round.
When Mcilroy buried his Putt Birdie in the playoff and knelt, Nantz simply said: “Rory has his masterpiece.” From there, almost seven minutes passed without a word of Nantz or any other person, since Mcilroy went to Green and met his family and his team for an emotional celebration.
Mcilroy joined Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in the rare golf history as the only golfers who completed the Grand Slam of the race.
