Wrexham have recruited two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning as a fan ahead of Monday's League One clash with Birmingham City, in which legendary quarterback Tom Brady has a 3.3% stake.
The club made the announcement on its Instagram account on Friday, with a post reading: “We're honoured that @elimanning has coincidentally (because co-chairs @robmcelhenney and @vancityreynolds begged him to) joined the @Wrexham_AFC fanbase, just in time for our game at @TomBrady's @BCFC on Monday night.”
Manning then commented: “Now I can beat @tombrady at football! Go @wrexham_afc!”
Manning, 43, played for the New York Giants for 16 years and led the team to victory in both Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI against Brady's New England Patriots. He is also a “strategic investor” in NWSL team NJ/NY Gotham FC.
Monday's clash at St Andrew's in Birmingham, England, pits two unbeaten teams in League One. Wrexham are top of English football's third tier with four wins and one draw, while Birmingham have played four games and have three wins and one draw.
The match has been unofficially dubbed the 'Hollywood Derby', with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham taking on Brady's Birmingham.
