Copa América: Assistant referee collapses during Peru vs. Canada


An assistant referee collapsed and fainted in the first half of the Copa America Group A match between Peru and Canada, which was played in hot and humid conditions at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City on Tuesday.

Humberto Panjoj collapsed during first-half stoppage time and Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau caught the attention of medical staff.

The Guatemalan official was treated on the sidelines and stood briefly before being taken off on a stretcher.

According to AccuWeather, the temperature in Kansas City is expected to reach a high of 93 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, with humidity at 53%.

Canada won the match 1-0 with a goal from Jonathan David in the second half after Peru was reduced to 10 men following Miguel Araujo's red card.
