Colorado and Vanderbilt lead college football troll list for Week 1

The trolls in Week 1 of college football were nothing short of mean.

Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes were close to being defeated by the North Dakota State Bison. But Travis Hunter saved the day with his touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, which gave Colorado a two-score lead. The Buffaloes would go on to defeat the Bison 31-26.

Before the game, North Dakota State poked fun at Colorado by posting the differences between a buffalo and a bison, and attaching a link to bison facts.

But once the Buffaloes defeated their FCS opponent, they turned to X to highlight the difference in the teams' records.

Vanderbilt shocked the college football world on Saturday morning, pulling off a historic win in front of its home fans in Nashville, Tennessee. The victory was the Commodores' first non-conference win over a high-powered conference opponent since 2017.

Quarterback Diego Pavia threw two touchdown passes and ran for one more as Vanderbilt completed the upset in overtime. Pavia accounted for 294 of the Commodores' 371 yards of total offense.

After the game, Vanderbilt harshly criticized Virginia Tech's Hokie mascot and added an image of a cooked turkey to a graphic depicting the final result on social media.

In Gainesville, Florida, it was all Hurricanes as Miami racked up 529 yards of total offense en route to a dominant victory in their rivalry. Highly touted transfer quarterback Cam Ward quickly connected with star receiver Xavier Restrepo, the two connecting seven times for 112 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter.

The Hurricanes fanned the flames of the state feud on social media after the final whistle, mixing the Gators' iconic stadium nickname with lyrics from the song “Take Over Your Trap.”

Utah left no room for doubt in its season-opening win against Southern Utah.

The 49-0 victory is the Utes' largest shutout since 2007, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Utah scored 28 points in the second quarter and totaled 513 yards. Cameron Rising threw five touchdowns for the Utes (all in the first half), which tied him for third in school history.

If the win on the field wasn't enough, Utah made sure to poke fun at its in-state counterparts with a clever graphic.
