Bos Nation FC of NWSL to change the name after the violent reaction

Boston's NWSL 2026 franchise announced Friday that it will officially change its name after a highly appealed launch last fall.

The team was announced in October as the Bos Nation FC, an anagram for “Bostonian”, and received an immediate national setback for the name and accompanying marketing campaign, “too many balls”, which many considered offensive.

The team apologized and quickly withdrew most of its marketing, but before Friday, the club's leadership refused explicitly that the name would be changed.

The team said that the new name will be announced “in the coming weeks”, and that an updated word and Crest brand would continue in the summer.

“The club extends our sincere thanks to our followers, whose passionate voices we value deeply, not only for their unwavering support but also for her honest and critical comments,” said the owner of the majority Jennifer Epstein in a statement.

“We could not have completed this process without its contribution. Our goal is to build a lasting legacy that makes all our fans feel welcome, connected and proud to use our colors and encourage our name for the coming generations.”

Boston received a NWSL expansion franchise in 2023, but continues to face several obstacles before its expected launch within a year.

The entire equipment's expansion offer depended on an ambitious private public association with the city of Boston to renew the White Stadium and share the space with the athletics of Boston public schools.

The budget for the stadium has doubled since it was first proposed in 2023, and the plan faces continuous legal and political challenges.

The mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, has supported the project for almost two years. She is willing to re -election this year, and the stadium has become a focus point for mayor Josh Kraft, son of the billionaire of the New England patriots and the owner of the New England Revolution, Robert Kraft.

The demolition of the 66 -year -old White Stadium began last month, leaving less than a year to rebuild the stadium and have it ready for the next NWSL season.

“Our current expectation is that we will be ready to launch [Boston] In 2026, “said NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman last week.

Boston is scheduled to launch with a Denver team next year, which will take the NWSL to 16 teams.
